Our Story

In Hand Acupuncture and Herbs is a clinic in Acton, MA., where we practice multiple methods in the tradition of Chinese medicine.  By “In Hand” we mean we will do our best to let all our visitors feel they are in good hands. The treatments we provide here are mostly done with the acupuncturist’s hands.  When we are able to open and accept energy from the higher power, our hands become a channel to deliver energy to other people.

The body has its own way of healing.  Sometimes, because of blockage of the body's energy (called Qi {Chee}), the body loses this natural ability.  We believe a healthy body requires balance. We treat imbalance, such as pain or illness, as a lesson and a reminder from our bodies.  When the body has regained its natural function, there is no need for further assistance. Like a gardener who waters and provides a suitable environment for plants, a healer helps the body to cure itself.  Therefore the healer provides necessary assistance to enhance the body's ability to resume normal functions.  Our main goal is to support people with natural ways of keeping body, mind, and spirit in balance.  We work to alleviate pain (body), reduce stress (mind), and connect with the inner wisdom and true nature in everyone (spirit).

It is well known that our body, mind and spirit can’t be separated. They are part of a oneness, and each will affect the others.  For example, when people are nervous, some may eat less but some may eat more than usual.  Another example is that long-term illness leads to depression and anxiety.  Ancient Chinese medicine is a systemic treatment which relieves emotional tension and stress by stimulating certain points on our body.

In Hand Acupuncture & Herbs And “Yin Han Tang”

In Hand Acupuncture and Herbs is directed by a second generation practitioner of Chinese Medicine, Jonathan (Huan Wen) Fang.  The Chinese name of our clinic is Yin Han Tang, and “Yin Han” is the name of Jonathan’s grandfather, who was an experienced and compassionate traditional Chinese Medicine physician in Taiwan.

Yin” also means silver in Chinese. In our clinic we mostly use stainless steel needles, but some needles are silver and even gold.

The word “Han” means Chinese. Chinese people believe they are the descendants of Han. In Chinese history, there were many times that different races merged into a stronger race, and each time they all called themselves Han.

Tang” means Clinic.

In the essence of Chinese medicine, herbal formulas and acupuncture treatments work together as a team, which has the strongest one leading the healing process, and the others supporting it to make the healing complete. With their combined effort they bring out the best healing energy of the body, which increases the effect and decreases the side effects. True healing energy is about balanced cooperation among different parts.

Here, we follow the wisdom of the ancient Chinese and provide the best way to care for each individual’s needs.
